Our history - the origins

Our hotel in Segni is a superior 3 star with an antique heart.

Up until the beginning of the 1900s, where our hotel stands was a large chestnut tree which was called, for its excellent quality, Jo Beglio (The Beautiful) and belonged for centuries to the Marchesato dei Tani of Ferentino, one of the ancient Papal noble families.

And so it was here, in a centuries old chestnut wood, not far from the centre of Segni, that in the summer of 1945, just as the war finished, the cavalier Giuseppe Lorenzi together with his wife Angela Felice and their children (Anna, Carlo, Bruno, e Maria Pia) a fraschetta or traditional eatery: a typical Roman country inn, with no kitchen, where they used to offer wine (made by themselves) and a small range of simple food and they would place a branch from the vineyard above the entrance to the inn to show that the new wine was ready.

The fraschetta, The "fraschetta", which was on the ground floor of the large Lorenzi family house, above all offered sandwiches and some "supplì" or filled rice balls and it was immediately loved and visited by many local workers from the calcium pits (followers of a an ancient local tradition) as well as many citizens looking for a glass of wine or a sweet fizzy drink to share in the company of friends with whom they could forget about the anxiety caused by the war that had just ended. And it was because of this that Peppino Lorenzi chose such an evocative name.
But the Lorenzi family is always ready to greet and interpret the huge changes that this area (like the rest of the country) is preparing for: over the years the facilities on offer have grown and changed together with the mission of the business.

In 1946 the family house was already in business as a hotel, in fact that year the rooms were opened (eight bedrooms with shared bathrooms, a kitchen and a small dining room) and just four years later this was added to.

In 1958, a few metres from the central building, a guest house with 35 rooms and an annexed sitting room was constructed and later refurbished with new facilities added. In the same year La Pace overcame fierce competition to host training courses for chefs and waiters from the prestigious Enalc school at Castel Fusano, while in 1960 the hotel expanded further with the purchase of a small villa "nearby".

Meanwhile the small city of Segni and all of its extraordinary complex of monuments began to attract students, backpackers and tourists: all welcomed by the new "Hotel Ristorante La Pace". Above all, this friendly and discreet spot has been discovered (and been elected for decades as their favourite place to stay) by hundreds of managers, technicians, manual workers, and business representatives who in the nearby Colleferro and in all the Sacco valley are part of the great industrial venture of Bpd and of all the other chemical, cement, transport and aerospace companies. And then came the season of sports retreats, trade union conventions, business meetings, society balls, and literary prize ceremonies amongst other events.

In 1975 the hotel underwent its most significant intervention and refurbishment and expansion, a new reception room was created and the reception area was enlarged as well as adding 38 bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.
In the meantime in 1970, the children of the founders Giuseppe and Angela Felici laid out the first structure for the modern company: the sisters Anna and Maria Pia Lorenzi (even though the latter was to continue for many years to offer support in the kitchen) left the family business; Carlo and Bruno Lorenzi, thought, with their respective wives, created the company “Albergo La Pace s.r.l.”.

Finally, in 1982, Carlo Lorenzi took the reins of the family hotel on his own with his wife Anna Calabresi, who still runs the command deck in the kitchen today, and slowly handed over to their children what would become the current company and managerial model for the hotel: Vittorio and Paola manage the reception and the bedrooms and Alessandra and Giusy are in charge of innovating in the kitchen and taking care of the food available. Further expansion and refurbishment in 1995 and 1998, and then finally major restyling work carried out between the autumn of 2009 and summer of 2010 provided new, more efficient and functional communal areas and above all an architectural look that is appropriate and unifying for the hotel-restaurant.
