Segni: the Pearl of the Lepine
Segni, a city in Lazio with around 9,000 inhabitants, rises out of the background of the Lepine mountains around 50km from the Capital city and just a few steps from the modern Rome-Naples motorway. Immersed in a lush, healthy, natural environment between the Apennines and the sea, justifiably proud of its ancient roots, the town of Mount Pianillo dominates the entire valley of the Sacco.
From the town of Segni you can look over the peaks of the ponderous Lepine and those of the Ernici mountains, close to the lush hills of Ciociaria, and brush up against other real historical and cultural jewels within easy reach from here: Palestrina, Anagni, Ferentino, Valmontone, Fiuggi, Paliano.
The fascinating journey of the polygonal walls (or gigantic), where the famous Saracen door is set, and the vast architectural complex of the Acropolis make up a large part (but not all of it ) of the magnificent hiking trail inside the city that houses the Hotel La Pace.
The unique landscape and the peace that reigns in these parts are the perfect setting for hiking and relaxing walks in the woods during which you can pick strawberries, blackberries and mushrooms or photograph rare flora and fauna.
Besides the fascinating historical and artistic walks in the historical centre, you can then choose walks that take you to the towards the Segni Ranges or instead head towards the range at Montelanico. For the more sporty and bold the path up Monte Lupone is ideal: once arrived at the top you can admire the unique landscape as far as the promontory of Circeo and the beaches of Torvaianica.
